Carers Rights Day 2008
Carers find out how to Make the Most of their Money
Over 100 carers in Telford and Wrekin benefited from a special Carers Rights Day event organised by the Carers Contact Centre on Friday 5th December at the Holiday Inn, Telford. This year in particular the theme of “Making the Most of Your Money” is even more relevant.
To make sure that carers know their rights and are getting the support and benefits they deserve, the Carers Contact Centre organised this free information event.
Local MP David Wright attended, giving his support to the difficult and essential role that carers play.

Martyn Clarke, from the DWP gave a talk on pensions and benefits and was on hand to give advice, which many carers took advantage of.

There was a wide range of information available from how to get help in keeping your home warm to financial advice on how to maximise your income. Carers also received a free bag of toiletries from Ironbridge and Severn Gorge Lions Club.

Andrew Eade, leader of Telford and Wrekin Council, presented the prizes to the winners of our photo competition organised by the Carers Contact Centre, with entries showing “A Day in My Life as a Carer”. First prize of a digital camera, kindly donated by the Camera Shop, Wellington, was won by Joan Green.
One of the many carers who attended said “I didn’t realise that there was this sort of help available to me, it was a very useful day.”
